Rick is president of WealthOne Advisors and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and Certified Estate Planner™.
Throughout his 28-year career, Rick has followed a distinctive approach to personal finance, often challenging conventional wisdom while adhering to the principles of prudent and disciplined investing. He believes the best way to serve clients with their financial and retirement planning needs is from a platform that seeks to eliminate bias and conflicts of interest and aligns his success with the success of his clients.
From his early days in the industry working with the largest U.S. financial planning firm at the time, Rick saw the dichotomy between his duty to provide financial advice in his clients’ best interests and the incentives offered by firms to brokers for product sales. Favoring a more holistic, unbiased approach to serving his clients comprehensive financial needs, Rick chose to go independent in 1993 with Linsco/Private Ledger, now known as LPL Financial, which is currently the country’s largest independent broker/dealer.*
Rick is a member of the National Institute of Certified Estate Planners and past President for the San Diego Institute of Certified Financial Planners. Rick has contributed articles and interviews for numerous local and national publications including the Journal for Financial Planning, The San Diego Union Tribune and San Diego Seniors News Magazine.
As partners in marriage and business, Rick and Jessica Alvarado share a passion for and commitment to building lifelong relationships and helping individuals and families make financial decisions that enrich the quality of their lives.

Jessica is a San Diego native, who grew up in Pacific Beach and attended college at the University of California at San Diego. After graduation, she worked in the healthcare industry as a marketing director for several retirement and long-term care facilities. Through this early experience, she saw how important proper planning is for individuals and families facing long-term convalescence of a loved one, and how proper planning affects the choices available for those in need of care.
After several years on the provider side of long-term care, Jessica took her experience to the planning side of the industry, with a firm specializing in corporate benefits. In her role, she trained benefit providers, healthcare administrators and financial planners about the complexities of long-term convalescence and long-term care insurance.
Today, Jessica shares her healthcare and long-term care planning expertise with clients of WealthOne Advisors. As Office Manager, she supports the investment advisory services provided by Rick, her husband. She manages back office operations and is integral to the firm’s culture of building strong client relationships.
Jessica and Rick reside in Fallbrook with their son Brandon and English bulldog Otis. As a family, they enjoy spending their free time by exploring the wilderness with hiking, biking and motorcycle trips.

We chose the Torrey pine for our logo because it symbolizes endurance, perseverance, and the value of a strong foundation—the same qualities we strive to deliver to our investment advisory clients.
The Torrey pine is the rarest native pine in North America, growing only along a small stretch of San Diego coastline. The Torrey pine has an elaborate root system that has allowed it to survive centuries of drought, ocean salt, coastal winds, harsh cliffs, and even the occasional ice age.
A 40-foot Torrey pine can have a 200-foot network of roots. These roots can navigate tiny cracks in bedrock to find the nutrients it needs to flourish and the footing to remain steadfast under extreme weather conditions.
We see many similarities between the Torrey pine and successful investors. Both can sustain long-term growth by remaining grounded under challenging conditions. And an extensive support system helps investors and the Torrey pine establish strong roots to thrive in any environment.
As investment advisors, we are here as your support system in the life-long journey towards achieving both personal and financial objectives.
