Welcome! I am Jessica Alvarado, client service specialist at WealthOne Advisors. I’ve spent more than 20 years in the financial services industry, wearing several different hats with various companies.
After graduating from UCSD in 1994, I worked with the largest healthcare provider in San Diego as a marketing representative. The experience provided me with an insider’s view of the healthcare industry and it paved the way for my next career path – providing educational workshops on long-term convalescence to financial advisors. Having dealt with the long-term convalescence of my grandparents, mentoring financial advisors in best-practice healthcare policies was a very personal cause. It also introduced me to Rick Alvarado, my spouse and partner in life.
The next chapter of my career brought me to WealthOne Advisors. The transition from educating advisors to working directly with clients was a surprisingly welcome career change. It took me from teaching the concept of aging to experiencing the reality of how end-of-life planning affects families. More importantly, I discovered a new passion – that is, how much I value long-term client relationships.
Working closely with clients has also created the opportunity to serve as a trustee. A trustee is a fiduciary who is appointed by a trustor to manage assets on behalf of a third party. Because of the strict legal standards assigned to this role, I serve in this role for only a select few clients.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading historical biographies and cookbooks of various cuisines. In the kitchen, I enjoy researching and experimenting with new recipes. I grew up in a close-knit family whose love language was centered on culinary activities. We’d often share family holidays with meals created from scratch using organic ingredients. It’s a labor of love that’s been generations in the making. One for which Rick and our son, Brandon, enthusiastically participate as taste testers.
My other pastimes include hiking and biking with the family. Raising our son and spending family time together is my joy and privilege. With an energetic English Cream Retriever in the mix, exploring local mountains is our typical go-to activity.
